"Weeping Women" pyrography by Nathan Keys

This is the first piece of my next exhibition in Balor Theatre Ballybofey in Donegal, the exhibition called local legends. this piece is the weeping women which is an exploration of legends lost in the northwest i concentrate my work on the Fomorians and the story behind this piece is taken from a medieval writing called the training of Cu Chulainn were Cu Chulainn saw three women on the beach crying with babies in their arms, he asked what they were doing they said they have to tribute their first borns to the Fomorians so they wont be attacked ,as a hundred men and women line the shore a vessel came ashore a big beast of a deformed man came from the water with a smile so devious and devilish it stunned Cu Chulainn so he drew his sword and as the beast raised his long arms Cu Chulainn slayed him with one strike. every piece i make is on wood from chairs donated from a 1940’s school to a theatre erected in the 50’s so the story and history behind my work is the main aspect of my work.
