"Renaissance Woman" conte pencil by Marilyn Lambert Gerwing

I have a had lifelong love for drawing & especially admire the techniques of the Old Masters. For this drawing, I used the additive method of shading using a red conte pencil. I lightly toned the white paper with the pencil, creating a middle value & drew the basic shapes in. I then established the core shadows & darkest areas, building them up with soft hatching strokes. The lightest values were created by lifting the areas off with a kneaded eraser. I liked the subtle, soft effect this approach created in the final result.
