Beautiful Forms of Abstract Steel Sculpture by Richard Calvin

Artist & Metal Sculptor Richard Calvin -

Originally from Cumbria, I am a fully time served tradesman. One of the very last Sheet Metal Workers/ Welders to be taught by “Old School” craftsman, Brian Butterworth at the renowned apprentice training centre at Sellafield, British Nuclear Fuels. When the four years were up I escaped and started traveling around the globe, always falling back on my trade when in need of work.

I have had time off of the tools, for example for some years I was exporting clothing from the UK to the Czech Republic and more recently I’ve been working with my wife Sara at Charming Villas Catalonia.  I have also been a semi-professional tennis trader on Betfair. I’ve now returned to my roots in a more artistic way and although it’s been a while, I retain the ability to bend and stick bits of metal together to a high quality finish.

I have now settled down and have been living in the wonderful village of Besalu, Catalunya since 2001 with my wife and our three very well behaved boys.

Commissions -
Before starting any privately commissioned work I like to meet the people for whom the sculpture is intended and visit the location, usually the garden, where it will be situated.

This way through a series of discussions, swapping ideas and sketching we can come up with an agreed vision and a way forward.
